History
The Heinkel He-111, potentially the only German aircraft from the Second World War that could compete with the Messerschmitt Bf 109 in terms of fame, initially began as a civilian airliner design before becoming a formidable bomber.
Characterised by its fully glazed nose and large, elliptical wings, the H-6 model was the most widely produced variant, participating in every theatre of the war in roles such as bombing, torpedo-bombing, mine-laying, and reconnaissance. Due to the absence of a suitable successor, these aircraft continued to be used until the war’s conclusion.
