Replicates the iconic Royal Aircraft Factory BE2c night-fighter used for home defence
History
The Royal Aircraft Factory BE2c, designed by the government, was renowned for its stable flight, making it perfect for the challenging role of a home-defence night-fighter during the First World War. It excelled in nocturnal operations, protecting Britain from German airship threats. The aircraft gained historical significance on 3rd September 1916, when Lieutenant William Leefe Robinson, piloting a BE2c, successfully downed the first German airship over Britain. This extraordinary feat earned Robinson the Victoria Cross, the highest honour for bravery in the UK, and secured the BE2c’s legacy as a key component of Britain’s aerial defence during the Great War.
