FIAT – MEFISTOFELE 1924 RECORD 12 LUGLIO 234.98Km/h SIR.ERNEST ELDRIDGE

In 1923 the Englishman Sir Ernest E.D. Eldridge bought a 1908 Fiat SB4 and mounted a World War I Fiat aviation engine (model A12bis) of 21706cc capable of delivering 306 horsepower. The frame was modified, among other things with the lengthening of the wheelbase. On 12 July 1924 Eldridge managed to conquer the speed record at Arpajon in France with 234.980 km / h.

The FIAT Mefistofele (sometimes known simply as Mefistofele) is a one-off racing car created by Ernest Eldridge by combining a Fiat racing car and aeroplane engine in 1923. The name is from the demon of the same name.

Eldridge broke the World Land Speed Record in 1924 with the Mephistopheles, by driving at 234.98 km/h (146.0 mph) in Arpajon, France.

The Mephistopheles was created by combining the chassis of the 1908 Fiat SB4 with a 6-cylinder, 21.7 litre (21706 cc) Fiat A.12 aeroplane engine producing 320 PS (235 kW; 316 bhp).
