After the first year of the war, the German air force command had to recognize that the Junkers Ju 87B no longer met the requirements in many areas. The increasing strength of the ground defense and the use of combat aircraft during the war led to a restructuring of the tasks of the Ju 87 as an attack aircraft. The D version received a more powerful engine, a new aerodynamic fairing and stronger armor. Your new task was primarily the ground combat mission, which also included fighting tanks using a 3.7 cm caliber cannon.
